Ten Steps Forward with Cabaret 2011

“Imagine!”

Creative Imagination is one of the 10 Life Listening Practices we teach—and practice! Creative Imagination is the reason our cabarets are successful. And Creative Imagination provided the genesis for Project Empower.

Every year there are multiple challenges to putting on a great show and this year was no exception, but I suspect that none of them were evident on Saturday, April 30th, thanks to the creative imagination of about 50 volunteers, not counting performers and the women from Liberty Manor who danced to Aretha Franklin’s R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Together with all our sponsors, donors and attendees, an empowering cloud enveloped all of us and lifted us to a higher plane. How can we  begin to thank you?? But beware, plans are already underway for Fifth Annual Cabaret 2012: Celebrate! Let us know how you’d like to help!

Obviously the Cabaret is a fundraiser, but that is not our only value or objective. In fact, the fundraising part has probably not been the most successful outcome, although we have steadily gained ground and think we finally know what we are doing. We expect to raise a lot more money next year (although we are more than thankful for the $7500 we raised this year!).

Our most important value is empowerment, whether it be Project Empower itself, the women from Liberty Manor who participate in the Cabaret, the audience, performers, and volunteers—and our donors. Do you know that almost all of our financial support comes from local business? Our goal is to empower the local economy to make it a safer and stronger community for all of us.

Nothing, however, can compare with the words of the Liberty Manor women. Here are a few comments:

I am so lucky to be a part of this program. The Cabaret was such a great experience for me. Project Empower is opening up new positive, healthy avenues for me. Today I am adding to the positive energy in the world. Joy and Alison bring a sense of togetherness to our home each Wednesday. They inspire me to surround myself with positive energy, to embrace women, and to take risks to experience new things. – With my love and gratitude!

The Cabaret was such a moving, magical experience. I just loved everything about the Cabaret—really empowering. I thank everyone that made the Cabaret possible. I want to especially thank Joy for letting me be part of the Cabaret. With my love!

The Cabaret so beautiful, spiritual, and breath-taking, even boosting my self-esteem. I. It brought out the little girl in me and I finally made my 4-year-old proud of me. I went beyond myself to a whole new level. I am encouraged me to keep fighting the good fight. Being up on the stage and people cheering made me feel like somebody. The Cabaret brought out the talent in me and others. My experience made me whole and complete. Mentally made me stable and focused. I have much respect for myself and others around me. I love myself today and I am more determined to stay clean and focused. Thank God and the Cabaret!
